Personal Data Protection in Russia and Other Post-Soviet countries as a Factor of Economic Growth

Russia and other post-Soviet countries are moving rapidly to the digital economy. Electronic government services, social media, big data, and artificial intelligence- all of them are not only making life more comfortable, but at the same time putting us at risk of being controlled, manipulated, or deprived of our own data. This presentation addresses the origins of the current data protection situation in Russia and presents hypotheses about how the situation may be improved. Attention is paid to the concept of digital citizenship and its possible implications on data protection and economic growth in Russia and other post-Soviet countries.
