 ortable\, but at the same time putting us at risk of being controlled\, ma
 nipulated\, or deprived of our own data. This presentation addresses the o
 rigins of the current data protection situation in Russia and presents hyp
 otheses about how the situation may be improved. Attention is paid to the 
 concept of digital citizenship and its possible implications on data prote
