English Phonetic Variation and Code-Switching: Situational Analysis and Reflection on Spoken Intercultural Communication

James Yang is a professor at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology Taiwan studying socio-phonetics. 

Learn about how people use varieties of English to communicate, especially between those who may not share a primary language. Instead, English becomes their mode of communication. In this presentation, we will examine some of the intricacies of these interactions using data analysis to understand how people use English as a lingua franca in order to build meaningful relationships with those from different cultures and backgrounds.
