At St. Augustine College, we offer FREE GED classes online for adults in both English and Spanish and take just 10 weeks to complete. Our innovative and intensive Chicago-based GED program prepares students for success with a strong college and career readiness component.
And for students who want to keep going, and find higher paying job opportunities? There’s a clear path into associate’s and bachelor’s degrees available for Spanish and English speakers.

What the Program Includes – Illinois High School Diploma Information
Every student in the program gets access to:
- Preparation for all four GED subject areas (Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies)
- U.S. Constitution Testing
- Paid Practice Tests
- Personalized tutoring
- Computer navigation skills training
- Job readiness workshops
- Scholarships covering 50% of Illinois GED testing fees
- Support services to help you complete the program and earn you Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate
- A FREE College class at St. Augustine upon graduation.
Classes are available fully online in both English and Spanish.
Who Can Enroll
Our GED program is open to Illinois residents who meet the following requirements:

- 18 years of age or older
- Computer required / Laptop or Desktop (SAC does not provide a computer for online classes)
- Reliable Internet connection
- IL Residents only
These are intermediate-level classes: Students must have a 9th-grade level in reading and a 7th-grade level in math.

FAQs
How do you get a GED in Illinois?
To get a GED in Illinois, you must complete the computer-based GED® exam, which covers four subject areas:
- Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA)
- Mathematical reasoning
- Science
- Social studies
The entire exam takes about 7.5 hours to complete. St. Augustine offers free GED classes for adults available to all Illinois residents. We offer our GED classes in Spanish and English to help you prepare for the exam.
How long is the GED Program?
Ten weeks. Classes meet five days a week, four hours per day. It’s a serious commitment, and the structure is to ensure students who complete it are ready to pass.
Can I get an associate’s degree with a GED?
Yes. All of St. Augustine’s associate’s degree programs accept GED holders. In fact, our college is specifically designed for working adults and returning students, many of whom start their college education directly after completing the GED program here.
Is it harder to get into college with a GED?
At St. Augustine, no. Our programs are open to all GED holders, and students who complete our GED program here are eligible to start college with a free course and no separate admissions hurdle to clear.
What happens after I complete the GED program?
You’ll receive a free college course at St. Augustine. From there, you can enter one of our degre or credential programs, or take time to explore your options. Many students begin with general education courses and move into a degree program once they’ve found the field that fits.
