Welcome to the Social Work program!
Your admission into the program is the first step toward a rewarding career in social work.
The SAC social work program recognizes that every student brings their own unique talents. Students are encouraged to identify these qualities and explore how to use them in their life and future career.
As part of the social work program, students complete a social work internship, which is also called field instruction. During the internship, students receive hands-on experience in a social service agency while under the supervision of a social worker. The goal of the internship is to provide students with the opportunity to practice the Social Work content taught in the class while receiving constructive feedback from their Social Work supervisor. Students are also enrolled in a seminar class while in internship to receive additional support. The internship is a total of 420 hours, which can be completed in one or two semesters. Students can begin their internship after successfully completing 9 of the Social Work courses, elective coursework, and a field contract that is approved by the program field director.

Social Work advisors and learning facilitators are available to meet with admitted and future students by appointment. Students can request an appointment by emailing Cindy Morales at CVMorales@staugustine.edu or Dr. Hines at Ldhines@staugustine.edu.
Students admitted into the BSW Program will be notified by SAC email of their assigned social work advisor. Social work advising is provided by BSW faculty and learning facilitators. Students work with their assigned BSW advisor and learning facilitator to create a study plan and register for courses).
Each semester students will receive an email from their BSW faculty advisor inviting them to meet virtually and/or in-person to discuss their career and study plans. Advisors are available to help with recommendations for graduate school and jobs. Students can email their BSW advisor at any time to request an appointment.
Registration: Registration for upper-level BSW courses, SWK 319 and above, requires that students download and submit their application from this website for the BSW program and meet requirements for BSW program admission. Students may submit their upper-level BSW program applications to Dr. Hines, Dr. Ojeda, or Cindy Morales. They will ensure these are delivered to the BSW program before admission meetings and/or official acceptance into the BSW program. Students are notified of BSW admission by email from BSW resident faculty who advise.
Students will be notified by email when registration begins for the next semester and where they should register. The walk-in administrative advising and registration schedule will be sent by email to students.
Any student may request an appointment by email to speak with a BSW faculty advisor about a social work career, course plans, and other issues related to their education. Faculty field liaisons and the field director will contact BSW admitted students preparing for field internships. They are notified of mandatory field orientation meetings before receiving authorization to begin a field placement search and approval to register for the three field courses at the end of the BSW program.
During 2021-22 students should complete their FAFSA application with financial aid before registration which Dr. Juan Ojeda will do, Dean of Student, in the Advising office at Argyle. Failure to complete the process before beginning the semester means the student is not fully registered and may be dropped from classes. Any requested changes to a student’s registration after classes begin require the student to revisit Administrative advising, Financial Aid, and Bursar’s offices.
The BSW advisors look forward to getting to know you!!
